Georgia health care leaders will discuss the implementation of recommendations in the Institute of Medicine report, “Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” at the Georgia Nursing Summit Friday, Feb. 4 at the Loudermilk Center in Atlanta.

The summit will be the first of many discussions about transforming health care through nursing in Georgia and will bring together stakeholders from nursing, public health, clinical services, education, government, business and patient advocacy groups.

Medical College of Georgia President Ricardo Azziz will serve on the “Interdisciplinary panel on translation of the challenges in Georgia,” which will be moderated by MCG School of Nursing Dean Lucy Marion, who also served on the summit planning committee.


Summit discussions will focus on:
  • Preparing and enabling nurses to lead change
  • Improving nursing education
  • Removing barriers to practice
  • Creating an infrastructure for interprofessional health care workforce data collection
  • Fostering interprofessional collaboration
  • Improving access to care
  • Improving health outcomes in Georgia
  • Collaborating with other Southern states to improve health care across the region
