    RN or BSN Path?

I am just starting my journey into the nursing feild. I am taking my CNA class starting on Feb 14.

Then I have a handful of prereqs to get through before I can enter a nursing program. My Questions is this...

    1) Would I be better to get my RN and start working as an RN, (because i want and then to enter a RN to BSN program.

    OR

    2) Do you think that I should just Start our with the BSN program?

From I have read the BSN is what most hospitals are looking for, but I am leaning towards the RN first and then transitioning into the BSN from there. I was hoping to get some input from Nurses who have "been there, done that."

    Thanks for the help!

I started out as an LPN first, then went to an LPN to RN program. This may be different from what you have in mind; however, if you can get into an ADN program, you can do what I did: learn and earn (ie: work and go on for the ol' BSN).

Not sure what the wait lists are like in your area.

2 weeks till you start the CNA course, eh?

Apply to all of the RN programs in your area and attend the one that accepts you, or that accepts you first. If you get multiple acceptances, then go with the BSN program. It is best in terms of money, effort, and time spent to get the BSN from the get go and get it over with.

Yep 2 weeks for the CNA course to start! Looking forward to getting that over with! However, the class is at night and I will not see my family for 4 out 7 days a week... but no pain no gain right?!?!

I don't have much insight to give beyond what others have already posted, Gus. My only recommendation is that if you go a different path first, eventually get the BSN.

Stay in touch with us and, good luck.

Thanks Ricu! I will persue the BSN at some point in my journey, it is just a matter of when I do it! Thanks! All your input is gladly welcomed!
