OU College of Nursing develops screen for Domestic Violence

What do you think of this? http://www.4029tv.com/r/26852435/detail.html

Nursing professor Janet Wilson said she hopes a screening test for people responding to reports of domestic conflict can help reduce the risk that a participant in such a conflict could become a victim of violence in the future.

Oklahoma University said the school's College of Nursing at Oklahoma City developed the 11-question form intended to help first responders spot people who may need to be removed from a domestic situation because of the possibility of violence.

Wilson said the assessment form helps first responders recognize a potentially lethal situation and take action. The form calls for police officers and health-care workers to ask questions such as whether a person has been threatened with a gun, had their lives threatened or been forced to have sex.

Just ducky, particularly since OK has no-functional- short-term DV victims' assistence.

So. We arrest the abuser. They are held for 48 hours, then 1) released home (meaning the wife/SO is now also responsible for the court costs), or 2) charges are filed, but if the victim is working(>$10K/annum), they will not qualify for assistence, or even daycare that is compatible with many work schedules. I.e., if you work nights, you can't have DC because you aren't working during those hours.
IME, First Responders can identify victims of DV just fine, the problem is getting prosecution, due to the difficulty of getting real support and self-sufficiency for the victims. We have another "powerful tool in identifying a problem"...but no one is really interested in developing a solution.
