A nurses union says there's been a 25 percent nursing staff turnover at Santa Fe's Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center over the past year.

The Santa Fe New Mexican says 105 nurses have departed from the hospital since January 2010. Nurses left as a result of retirement, resignations or termination.

Hospital spokesman Arturo Delgado said in an e-mail to the New Mexican that 107 new nurses have been hired in the past year.

Delgado says the hospital employs nearly 400 full-time nurses and another 150 or so per-diem or temporary nurses.

Delgado would not confirm or deny numbers supplied by the union or answer questions about the hospital's turnover rate.

The spokesman did say the turnover rate in 2010 was lower than 2009.
