The first LTC facility where I worked had a nurse who was a gerontology specialist. Another nurse had a PhD. The facility struggled trying to utilize the talents of both. Both of them ended up as DONs, although I know that the PhD prepared nurse did not like being thrust into her leadership role. It would be nice to see that gerontologists could use their talents in roles other than the traditional "boss of the nursing home".
