Hello, I'm new here. I am considering beginning a travel nurse assignment in the new year, probably to Cali from FL. By that time I will have 1 1/2 years experience. I see that most companies prefer at least 2 years experience.
Any recommendations for agencies that pay decent, having a good reputation, for a beginner traveller? I'm trying to narrow down my choices to at least 5 at this time.
Thanks for any information. :)
Yes, usually most companies require two years of experience, and recent within the year. Without 2 years doesn't immediately exempt you from opportunities, though. I know many facilities in the California area that will take less, but it depends on many factors, i.e. experience, specialty, references and such. If you are new to travel nursing, be careful! Some companies will take advantage of that information. Know your lowest taxable rate is $17.00 an hour by law, research and ask other travel nurses about the difference by housing provided vs. providing your own housing, requesting guaranteed hours, asking if the contract with the facility will require you to float (possible between different in-house units or other local facilities) and insurance availability. Travel nursing can be a great opportunity, but many people get burned by bad contracts and never do it again. I'm a recruiter for travel nurses, and I have tons of needs in Californian. about.me/amber.davis is my personal (not work related) website... it has contact information for me.
