Hello fellow nurses! I'm here looking for support as I enter the arena of Interim positions. I have worked as both a travel and a staff nurse, and have held several managment positions, but this is my first "travel managment" position. Of course being in a management role, the job is lonely in that one can't really form "friendships" with those I supervise, to many opportunites for misconstruing it - and now being far far away from home, there isn't any friendships in the community either - so I'm turning to you all for some moral support.
I look forward to interacting with each of you - let me know if there is a topic you want to talk about also!

Welcome to the site. Maybe you would be happier in a travel position that is staff instead of management? Seems it would allow for more "normal" work relationships and less isolation.

Hey Tanya,
As a traveler I've come across a few traveling Nurse Managers. They have all been impartial and okay by me. They heard the gossip but didn't fall into the pits of it. The best ones were the ones not telling everyone that they were temporary. As far as friends go, I don't know if there's any other Nurse managers; house supervisors or others from other departments at your facility for lunch but I encourage you to stick your neck out and join a table. Sit there and listen, then next day do the same. Then before you know it, everyone at the table wants to know more about you. I assume that you are a day shift manager. Talk to others. Yeah, being friends with the people under your supervision is difficult but some good times could be had-a birthday party or celebration of some kind, bring the cake or other goodies. Don't be too open but don't be too stiff. You are human. Interact like one. Go to Liver rounds with your coworkers. Bring goodies to work for others to share and eat. Good luck. Newbies are new just for a few weeks- make an impression. good luck. let us know how it goes.
