    Working together

    HI all,

I am a nursing student and was wondering how supportive your work environment is. Do the nurses work well together? Do the physicians respect the nurses input? Is there good connections between departments? If so, what do you think is the reason/ Also, if not, why?

    Thanks,

    Amy

I've been at places that run the gamut. Some nurses working well with others, yet 'not' working when with others. Reason? They could get away with it, since supervisors gone for the night. Then again, around the time I left that job, the DON wasn't much to talk about.....

One MD that comes to mind? Real ass. Yet, others were cool.

A hospital is only as good as it's administration and the culture of cooperation it promotes. You will hear in school that "Nurses eat their young" This may be because most nurses are justtoo busy to be nice to newbies - However I had some truely outstanding mentors early in my career and I pay it forward by mentoring whenever possible. Dr's as a general rule can be pretty condescending especially the older ones who still see nurses as highly qualified housekeepers.
The young docs are better. As I said it depends and varies from place to place - Why people are human!

    Peace and namaste
