Requesting a reasonable rate for being on-call or any other situation would be wise in any scenario. One should always speak up for oneself. BTW welcome to the site.
FYI to all RN's considering a travel assignment in the bay area (San Francisco, East bay, North bay and/or South bay) if you are wanting to work in this area and the position involves on-call or stand by, regular staff in this area receive 1/2 of their hourly base pay for being on-call. Average houly for specialty RN's 57$ equating to 28.50$/hr while on-call. I strongly encourage all travelers to present a cohesive front and demand reasonable rate... I have been able to negotiate at least 16$/hr and have either negotiated for no call or declined the assignment if the facility is unwilling to negotiate a reasonable rate.
