Morphine order does not give a prn time order, such as every 2 or 3 hours prn.etc.. I would clarify that order.. you can give a bolus which is an IV Push.
A nurse is reviewing a client’s prescriptions. The nurse should contact the provider to clarify which of the following prescriptions?
Phenytoin (Dilantin) 100 mg PO every 8 hr
Morphine 2.5 mg IV bolus PRN for incisional pain
Regular insulin (Humulin R) 7 units subcutaneous 30 min before breakfast and dinner
Lisinopril (Zestril) 20 mg PO every 12 hr. Hold for systolic BP less than 110 mm Hg
My thoughts are Morphine. Do you administer a bolus for incisional pain?
