Sorry! Yes, In A Hospital. I Was Thinking Nicu. What Do You Guys Think/suggest For A Beginner?
- Emergency Department
- Orthopedics
- Coronary Intermediate Unit
- CVIMC
- Coronary Care Unit
- Operating Room
- Admissions Unit
- Express Care
- Med/ Surg Intermediate Unit
- ICU
- 4 NWT
- Nursery
- 3 IMC
- Crossroads
- Neuro/ Med
- General Post Surgery-2 Surg
- Labor & Delivery
- Neuro/ Med
These are some of the departments that are avil'able at the hospital closest to me.
I was told to start out somewhere that is not busy or hecic (Operating Room or the Emergency Department). Anyway, I dont think it will be good to start out there because you will not have that much clinicals during school to warrant the skills for the OR or the ED.
suggestions:
Orthopedics
Admissions Unit
Nursery
...just to name a few.

hi there,
go where your heart is.... If nicu is it, trust me you will know really quick. Should it not work out, every hospital I have ever worked at was more than willing to allow new grads latitude, they will help you find where you need to be.
Take your time, dont be in a hurry. You will find your place. Nursing is wide and deep, room for many.

Best is in the eye of the beholder. I love what i do, but it's not everyone else's cup of tea. A girl i graduated with loves the dialysis unit she works on, and that was the last place i wanted to go. I didn't want to do LTC because i had done that for years as an aide, and had gotten burnt out.
We also had a few in my clinical group who had their heart set for certain depts., but completely changed their mind during clinicals. One wanted Maternity, but was hooked to the ER her first observation there. Another also wanted to do Maternity, but found that she loved Orthopedics better. And i'd planned on Med-Surg, until i did my OR observation.
Clinical is a fine time to check out various nursing specialties, to learn what you might like or not like, and decide what you might want to go in nto after graduation.
