Hi paulap ~~ I have not worked in the VI but I have a friend who is seriously considering it as well. Hope someone responds who's been there!
I am considering the Virgin Islands for my first assignment. Has anyone worked there and if so what was your experience like? What was housing provided consist of? Did you rent a car? Thanks for your input!!

I have not, but read on another site that patient ratios are high and tough job
Hello, I am a labor/delivery nurse, worked in St. Thomas Virgin Islands. It was just fine. A little different in culture and languages but if you are open to the experience with a positive attitude the patients and staff can be great. The labor and delivery unit delivers about 100-150 deliveries per month. The RN's work entirely with the head midwife in the deliveries with the Dr. on standby if assistant is needed. The l/d dept is separate from post partum, and nursery....which I like. Especially if you have pt that don't speak english, which can be common down there. I know that they do like to float l/d anywhere and everywhere they can get you to go.....so that can be a little stressful if you are ONLY L/D.
Bottom line the Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands are beautiful, why not work three days a week no matter how CRAZY it can be, and then enjoy the 4 days off in HEAVEN.
Suggestion, I traveled with TRUSTAFF, I also know ABETTA CARE, and PREMIER MED STAFF do assignment in V.I. my take home pay per week was around $1200 after paid housing. I also negotiated 1/2 a rental car. Because they suggest the Safarri Buses and I would never ride on one, no way! Plus, suggestion to stay on the North End of Island near Peterborg or Mandahl Bay, it's a better drive to work from the east end. Plus, clean and quiet.
I would do it again.
