    Got them Traveling Licensing Blues...

This is a test to see if it shows up before I spend any time on the real post...

Re: Got them Traveling Licensing Blues...

    OK then...
I just wrapped up preparations for a traveling assignment after about 8 years since my last one, and I re-discovered what a staggering job it is to get licensed in some other states, especially if you have had licenses in several states. The requirements vary so much, it would be great to have a database or even a spreadsheet of the various state requirements. For instance, here are some peculuarities I ran into. These are just in narrative form, but you can see how helpful it would have been to see some kind of side by side comparison.

VA you need copy of birth certificate. This is the only state so far (out of about a dozen) that requires this.

VA, SC and some others you can get a temporary license the same day if you have all the right documents.

NJ, CT and others can take months.

CT it is HARDER to get a license re-instated if it's expired than to get one for the first time.

But... CT is about the EASIEST state to get confirmation from for licensing in another state! You can do it by fax and there's no charge.

    For confirmation in other states:
    HI $15
    WA $25
    NY $20

For the Compact States: $30 covers all of them.

You have to live in a Compact State to use the license to work in other Compact States. For instance, I have a NM license, but I live in NY... I can't use my NM license to work in OR, as I could do if I lived in NM.

CA requires fingerprints, some other states do not.

So you see where I'm going with this? With some help from others I might be willing to gradually put together a spreadsheet so this info is organized. The obvious categories so far:
    1) What documents are needed?
    2) Can you get a temporary license?
    3) About how long from the time you first apply to when you can actually start working?
    4) How much is the license?
    5) How much to get confirmation of previous license?

So what is the best way to organize this info into something useful for travelers? Or is it just me?
