Exclamation Petty theft charge preventing career as RN?

OK i have a petty theft charge on my record (happened when i just turned 18 in Nevada and am still on a suspended sentence till march 2009. didnt steal anything too crazy.. but im going to be going throught the process of dimissing it in 2011 when im eligible)

anyways i tried to become a certified nurses assistant (CNA) but was denied from a community college because of my one charge on my criminal record. so i wasnt able to pursue even going to school for that course.

so I was wondering if i wouldnt be able to ever become a registered nurse because of my charge. and i would have to wait to go to school to become a nurse until after my charge is cleared.

can i ever become a nurse with my history ????

Every states nursing board is different. I do not believe you were rejected based on the severity of the charge but the recency of it and the fact that your situation with the court has not concluded.

For the FBON, they state that they look at severity, how long ago it was AND evidence of change (ie: rehabilitation). I believe that you would be able to become a nurse, you will simply have to check with your state BON to see what it will entail.
