Just in case you're interested: Fresno State may soon offer nursing doctorate - Local - fresnobee.com

The Assembly on Wednesday passed legislation that would allow California State University campuses to offer a doctorate of nursing practice.

Assembly Bill 867 now heads to the Senate.

Doctoral degrees have historically been the domain of the University of California, although some exceptions have been made. Some CSU campuses, including Fresno State, want to offer the nursing doctorate as a way to feed the faculty pipeline and expand programs to produce more nurses. Full-time, tenured nursing instructors must have doctorates, according to CSU rules.

The University of California offers research-oriented Ph.Ds in nursing, but only three private universities in California offer the more clinically focused Doctorate of Nursing Practice.
