I'm not sure what you mean by "packing on the home meds." Can you explain please?
Can anyone help or give advice? I was recently terminated from my job for "Packing on the home meds" on a telephone order from a doc. He was upset when he saw what I had done but signed it anyway. He proceeded to tell the patients wife what I had done, she happened to be a pharmacist, made a grievance report on me and was not happy until I lost my job. My manager said I was terminated due to "Integrity".
I am contacting a lawyer, do you think I have a case? I realize what I did was wrong, but he signed the order anyway. They are going to report me to the State Board of Nursing, I value my license as I am a single mother, without a job now.

I added two of the patient's home medications on to the telephone order without the doc's permission. He came to the hospital saw the order, was upset, said he wasn't going to order the home medications, signed the order anyway, went into the patient's room, ended up ordering all the home medications. The patient's wife was a pharmacist heard what I did and reported it. She was young, probably a new pharm. Had no regard to my livelyhood.
Did the doctor order "continue home meds"? Seems to me if he went ahead and signed your T.O. and went on to order them anyway, you're in the clear. The pharmacist/wife evidently has some power/control issues and is pushing her weight around, but I don't think she has a leg to stand with the doctor's signature backing you up. Good luck!
I agree. I have practiced as a primary nurse in medical oncology and did alot of this and never had a problem as long as I had my med onc signing or giving me verbals for orders.
The pharm is definitely inexperienced.
