Michigan nurses and other qualified citizens needed for state work. Go to http://mi.gov/dmva then click on the lower left hand link "volunteer defense force". They are an auxillery component of the army national guard that fills in for deployed units during state emergencies. They meet a few weekends per year and if activated get paid the same as regular soldiers. They do all training in state and are non-deployable outside of state borders even if activated. Training is done at national guard and state police builidings in michigan and hosted by the health dept and office of public prepardness. A major job of the VDF if activated is to handout medicine and vacines in a state crisis. Membership is also a skip in the vacine line since you have to be alive to hand them out. They need new members since they have about 170 but need at least 500 to be fully mission ready for a state crisis such as birdflu. No prior military experience is required, but veterans are welcome and can keep their old rank. People with a bachelors degree or above can apply for officer jobs also. This is a new program created in 2004 and needs to get the word out, so if you know anyone that could be interested in helping the state and getting free training and skip to the front of the vacine line without fearing any deployments out of state, please tell them about it. If you have any questions, please ask them below and I will do my best to honestly answer them all. Thankyou.

Also, you dont need to be a nurse to sign up, any Michigan citizen can apply but medical or military training is a definite plus.
