Officials with the Florida Board of Nursing in Tallahassee, recently notified First Coast Technical College of the achievements for nursing graduates who took the four-hour exam to obtain Licensed Practical Nurse status. A 99 percent pass rate for the period ending May 2010 was reported.

Nancy Plumlee, health careers coordinator, said FCTC's curriculum embraces full accreditation and draws students from all over northeastern Florida.

"Pass rates are evidence that our program continues to be successful and we attribute the success to our faculty who are dedicated to preparing competent graduates for the workforce," she said.

FCTC's program takes 13 months to complete, combining classroom instruction with hands-on clinicals at BayView Health Care Center, Putnam Community Medical Center, Shands Jacksonville, Kindred Hospital of North Florida and Palatka Health Care Center. New sites for this year will be St. Johns County Health Department, VA Clinic and the Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans Nursing Home.

To accommodate the employed, FCTC offers evening and day classes with financial aid available for those who qualify. Applicants must go through a selection process.

The next class begins in August. For information, go to www.fctc.edu, call 547-3471, or e-mail pam.kochanski@fctc.edu
