Indiana University East is pursuing a master's degree in nursing which, if approved, would be the campus' fourth graduate-level degree.

The Master of Science of Nursing degree already has been approved by the Indiana University Board of Trustees. Now, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association must approve the program before it can be offered to students.

Campus officials say the graduate program will prepare registered nurses with advanced practice nursing knowledge in the areas of nursing education and administration. Graduate students enrolled in the program will earn a minimum of 39 credit hours.

The curriculum is consistent with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Essentials of Masters Education and with requirements for accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the accrediting bodies in professional nursing education.
