activities in long term care facilities.

I have heard complaints of lack of activities for long term care residents, especially on the weekends. Do you have any bright ideas to provide stimulation to these individuals who find the weekends depressing?
How can I be a change agent and provide entertainment for these residents who need more fullfillment within their LTC facilities?

Depending on where you are, how about walks? Have more mobile people push the w/c bound. A 'kitchen band'? A cooking class with dietary, or help set up/decorate the Dining Room when it's a Family Night or special occasion? This might give them a purpose, and help facilitate discussing how it was when they were younger.

    Great question.

Start with those residents who can voice an opinion to get an idea of what they would like to do. Be sure to have meaningful, one on one activities for bedbound residents and others.
