New bed designed to reduce lift-related injuries in staff

OK, now to see who's actually SEEN one of these! http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/02/prweb5079454.htm

VitalGo, Inc., a provider of advanced technology-based solutions for reducing patient injury and nurse injury, has introduced the world’s only bed that can raise someone from a lying to a fully standing position – with zero manual lifting. The revolutionary Total Lift Bed (TLB) provides a solution to the epidemic rise in injuries to caregivers and patients, related to manual lifting and transfers to and from bed.

“This new concept changes the way caregivers lift and transfer patients,” says VitalGo CEO Ohad Paz, “It not only minimizes the risk of patient injury and nurse injury, but it simplifies the transfer process while providing optimal patient comfort.” The TLB can be used in place of regular hospital and nursing home beds at roughly the same cost, but with decreased incidence of worker injury and corresponding Workers Compensation cases.

    Eliminating an Unsafe Practice

In even the most advanced facilities, caregivers risk pain and injury when lifting patients from reclining to sitting and standing positions. On average, one in ten healthcare workers experience a job-related injury resulting in lost work time annually. At home, recuperating patients and the elderly are also at risk, as well as their spouses (56% of whom are the at-home caregiver) and other family members. The TLB eliminates this risk.

The TLB continuously displaying the amount of pressure on the patient’s feet and legs, and allows caregivers to raise patients incrementally, based on their ability to bear their own weight. This new tool, for the first time, gives physicians a better method of evaluation in developing optimal therapy programs, based on Weight Bearing Control for each patient.

I could have used that a few decades ago. Then I would not be in constant pain as I am now. Or maybe I am just getting old anyway
