I enjoy hearing about how everyone got their start in nursing; I think the thread was taken out of context by a few initially, but the question at hand really is 'What did you do when you graduated? Did you get the experience you needed?'

We've gotten some varied answers, which is what I expected. Alot of nurses I have worked with were older when they got into nursing; when I say 'older' I mean they were over 35 and 40 when they started.

When I went to nursing school, i was a minority in that I was one of the few who were doing their education after high school graduation. Most of my peers were much older and wiser, and did much better with OB rotation than I did as they had personal experience!

I actually went to school with my mom; she was 1 year ahead of me; went back to school after raising her family.

It was an 'interesting' experience; I had to live up to my mother who preceeded me in all my classes... it was funny at times.
