I live in Florida am a RN working in LTC as the Staff Development Coordinator I am trying to find out if it is in the LPN's scope of practice if they can hang TPN. The nurse practice act is vauge on that subject.
you can send a question to the board for their position statement.
I would think if that LPN is on duty by herself she could, because we as LPN's can work with PICC lines in nursing homes. The scope of practice changes once an LPN is the licensed person on duty. Especially if there are no other nurses on duty at the time. Make sure he or she has been inserviced properly to cover yourself. I often run into the same things depending on where I am working; but if I am on duty for second or third shift, and no other licensed person is there; I have to do it. I floated around with an agency for awhile, and my work environment changed depending on whether I was at a clinic, office, nursing home or rehab center. As we all know, many times an LPN is the only one on duty at night in those places. Good Luck. Kind regards; ruby43.:rose:
I am from Indiana and as an LPN we are allowed tp to everything except hang blood or blood products. The hospital I worked in didn't allow us to do IV pushes.
