    Requirements for travel nursing? HELP

Q: Do you have to have one year experience at a LEVEL 1 hospital with most travel nursing agencies, particularly international ones? Are level 2 hospitals also applicable?

I'm a student nurse graduating this May and would like to travel within a year and a half, at most. I live the wonderful city of Charlottesville, VA where we have a level 1 trauma hospital. Unfortunately, my Associates degrees in nursing won't get me hired in this hospital since they're only interested in BSN. My goal is to travel (and specifically internationally to New Zealand) but still need experience in an "acute hospital setting" which is my very delimma in understanding this term. Are level 2's considered acute? Any extra light on this subject, links to online reasources etc, is greatly appreciated!

I believe most foreign countries require a BSN as a minimum. To be sure look in my directory of Travel Nurse Companies outside of the U.S. (link top right) and ask some of them and also read their websites.

If you are in an "acute" care area - OR, ICU, ER, etc - then you have the required experience. Some, but not all, hospitals require 3 years experience.
Pick your area, join the organization for that specialty, get certified!, get pals, acls, etc, etc.
You'll be fine where ever you work. Your experience is what you make of it. You can get as involved as you want. It's up to you.
And it will show on your resume.
Don't be timid. Nursing requires some bravery. Traveling more.
Good luck. You'll be fine. You already have a "plan". Have fun!
